Our Adventure

This past Saturday, Josh and I thought, "why not buy all of our groceries today and cook them and have Sunday completely work free?" Sounded like a good idea.

We had some errands to run, so we went to a few places and ended up by a Tom Thumb, so we decided to stop there and buy everything. Let me tell you - BAD MISTAKE!

We fought most of the time. Pretty constantly. Josh thought I was looking through a lens of WalMart being the best grocery store in the world (which was wrong). And I was looking through the lens of, "Holy cow, this is expensive and I don't want to spend this much!!!!"

So 3 hours later (yes, 3 hours!) we went through the checkout line and spent $67! Our mouths pretty much dropped, especially since we hadn't gotten everything we needed (we still needed about 8 items).

So we went to Krogers afterwards to get everything else. That's when we began to kick ourselves, because we realized we had been had. Everything - I'm NOT exaggerating when I say EVERYTHING - was 50% of the price we paid at Tom Thumb. We went through and priced everything we had just purchased. The only two things that we paid the same amount for was the banana's and the Lemons. That's it. Even a frozen bag of peppers was half the price!

We were so upset, that we called Tom Thumb, asked them if you could return produce, went to Tom Thumb, returned everything, and went back to Krogers, got everything we needed minus two things for $50!

We didn't get home until 11 PM, but, hey, we saved some money!

So moral of the story and from our experience - Don't shop at Tom Thumb!!!!!

I guess some people just have to learn it the hard way. ;)

Amen to that sister! We used to live near a Tom Thumb in Irving and would occasionally go there because it was a block away, verses 5+ miles to another store...but man was it expensive! If you have one of their cards, it brings the prices closer to other stores and more doable, but still usually more expensive.

Oh my! You enlighten me so much. When I lived in Duncanville I LOVED Tom Thumb. I'm so sad to know it's 10X more expensive.
Maybe I didn't care all that much then. I definitely care now.
I'm glad everything worked out for you and Josh :)

Sorry you had to find out the hard way...I refuse to shop there because of the prices! Is there a Sprouts anywhere close? I LOVE Sprouts! Their sales and produce prices are amazing. I get everything I can there and the rest of Walmart.

Teresa - We actually were using their card and spent way over what we thought we would. It's pretty crazy.

Gilda - You enlighten me too! I miss you! :) We're caring even more lately because we are SO close to being debt free.

Elizabeth - I love Sprouts too! Sprouts is kind of far from us. We've made the drive many times (as we love their bulk section). All that is near us too, as far as a Wal Mart is a Wal Mart Neighborhood Grocery Store and they are pricey too. I guess that's the beauty of living downtown! :)
